Show will arc a young Bruce Wayne up to the stage where "he will put on the cape"

Batman will feature in Fox’s Gotham

While it has previously been stated that Batman will not appear in Fox’s upcoming Gotham TV show, it now seems the Dark Knight will in fact feature.

The show has been described as the origins story of Commissioner James Gordon, but chairman of entertainment at Fox Kevin Reilly revealed at a Television Critics Association press tour that Wayne’s transition into Batman will form a large part of the show, reports IGN.

"This is an origin story for young Bruce Wayne," said Reilly.

"The show will arc a young Bruce Wayne from a child (around 12) into the final episode of the series, when he will put on the cape.

"The actor will grow-up, if we do our job well, he’ll be a young man and ready [to be Batman] by the end, which isn’t to say we might not skip ahead"

Reilly also confirmed that the early lives of the Riddler, Catwoman, the Joker and the Penguin will be explored.

“We will see how they [classic Batman villains] get to become who they are as Gotham is teetering on the edge," added Reilly.

"We’re not starting in that world where the villains are in costume.

"You see markers for it that are kind of delicious. You begin to see the evolution of the eccentricities that become those characters, but you really sort of arc there. We don’t start out in capes and costumes."

"It is an operatic soap that has a slightly larger-than-life quality.”

Gotham will air on Fox, and has been created by Warner Bros. TV and The Mentalist’s Bruno Heller.
