Alice Webb, currently COO for BBC England, to take on the role in February.

BBC Children’s names new director

BBC Children’s has named Alice Webb as its new director.

Currently chief operating officer for BBC England, Webb (pictured) will take up the position at the end of February. She will be responsible for Cbeebies and CBBC, reporting to director of BBC England, Peter Salmon.

Webb was the executive behind the BBC’s biggest move outside London to its Salford base, orchestrating the successful move of key departments including Sport, BBC Children’s, 5 Live and BBC Learning.

She succeeds Joe Godwin, who is the new director of the BBC Academy and BBC Birmingham.

"BBC Children’s makes the best content for children in the world, and it’s a real privilege to be asked to lead such an important part of the BBC, particularly in these fast moving, digital times," commented Webb.

"I’m thrilled to be heading up such an amazing team, and playing my part in engaging our young, diverse audiences right across the country. This is my dream job and I can’t wait to get started."

Kay Benbow, controller of Cbeebies, is currently acting director of BBC Children’s until Webb takes up the post.
