BLE 2013 organisers Advanstar is celebrating its ‘biggest and most successful’ licensing show to date, with a five per cent growth in visitor attendance over last.
7,244 retailers, licensees and sales promotion professionals from 69 countries attended the show, while the total attendance reached 9,537, making it the largest event in its 15 year history.
As the retail attendance increased again by five per cent this year, BLE welcomed buyers from leading retailers including Auchan, Asda, BHS, ASOS, Carrefour, Debenhams, Harrods, Sainsbury’s, Tesco and Waterstones.
Meanwhile, overseas attendance increased with one in three visiting from outside the UK.
Darren Brechin, event director, said: "To think that there were 29 per cent more visitors to BLE this year than in 2011 is startling.
"It is indicative of two great strengths of the licensing industry: First that there are always people coming to the industry afresh, with new ideas, new brands, new products and new retail space. Second, that licensing across Europe is holding up in a very challenging economic climate.
"We worked very hard this year to make the new layout a success and will continue to dig deep into the three vertical categories to bring new companies and new people to BLE, and to ensure we give our visitors and exhibitors what they need and want from the show."
BLE 2013 also achieved high profile media coverage from Sky, BBC Radio Five Live alongside featuring in The Independent, The Telegraph and other business titles.
Rovio’s Angry Birds keynote drove much of this attention with over 230 people attending to hear the firm launch Angry Birds Go.
Advanstar has confirmed that plans for BLE 2014 are already well under way with 70 per cent of the show floor already sold.
