Boss Baby beats out Ghost in the Shell, Smurfs at Box Office

Dreamwork’s animation has dominated the week’s US and international box office, bringing in almost $64m. Disney’s live-action remake Beauty and the Beast holds strong at the number two spot on both charts, taking $61m internationally, pushing its overall gross close to the billion mark.

Ghost in the Shell, the live-action adaption of the Japanese sci-fi manga and anime series, disappointed in its opening week, debuting at number four on the US chart, taking just $7m. It fared better on the international chart, holding the number three place with an international gross of $48m. An ongoing franchise seems unlikely due to the film’s lacklustre performance in the US, as well as middling reviews from critics.

Finally, Sony Pictures’ Smurfs animation has debuted at number four on the international chart, taking the third place in the US, with an international gross of $36m.
