Branded hotels and themed holidays could just be the next stop for cult classic licenses The Terminator, Bill and Ted and Halloween, if the US specialist Creative Licensing Corporation has anything to do with things.
The licensing agency that deals with a portfolio of pop culture classic properties and hit 80s/90s movies recently detailed a swathe of new partnerships for its IP line-up, marking a step change for the market.
Among the deals struck was a new model and RC vehicle partnership for Ace Ventura with GreenLight Collectibles, an Evil Dead 2 Escape Room with Hourglass Escapes, the first Terminator branded fireworks from Winco and a Bill and Ted official phone booth from Cubicall.
However, the firm has stated that this is just the start of the depth of innovation that cult classic properties can reach, and CLC has its sights set on expansion into categories that include interactive props, branded hotels, vacations and more.
“This year, we launched the first ever Terminator and Bill and Ted’s escape rooms, and the first Terminator branded consumer fireworks. These are exciting new categories that we would like to take worldwide,” Stephanie Kupperman, director of business development at Creative Licensing Corporation, told Licensing.biz.
“2018 was our best year ever, but 2019 looks to be even better. Our titles like The Terminator, Rambo and Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure are classic and evergreen; they work in the collectors market precisely because they remind fans of their childhoods.
“Meanwhile, horror fans love to celebrate iconic films like our Evil Dead 2 and Halloween properties all year round, in large part due to the growing number of horror cons like Monsterpalooza, Days of the Dead and For the Love of Horror in the UK.
“We now want to expand into interactive props and explore categories like branded hotels, vacations, fashion apparel and capsule collections; but mostly we want to thank the fans of our classic films.”
