Shows including Peppa Pig, Horrible Histories and Something Special up for accolades; Skylanders Giants nominated in game category.

British Academy Children’s Awards nominees revealed

BAFTA has revealed the nominations for its annual British Academy Children’s Awards.

Presented by Jake Humphrey, the awards will be held on Sunday, November 24th at the London Hilton, Park Lane.

Several shows or properties with strong licensing programmes are up for accolades – including Peppa Pig, which has three nominations for Pre-school Animation and Writer, plus as Multiplatform for the Peppa Pig’s Holiday mobile app.

The Amazing World of Gumball is nominated twice (for Writer and Animation); Horrible Histories is nominated in the Comedy category, while spin off Horrible Histories: Gory Games is nominated in the Entertainment category; Something Special picks up nods in Pre-school Live Action and Presenter for Justin Fletcher.

Elsewhere, Nintendo receives three nominations in the Game category, going up against Activision’s Skylanders Giants.

Brave, ParaNorman and Wreck-It Ralph each receive a nomination in the Feature Film category; Moshi Monsters is included in the Original Interactive category; while Cartoon Network, Cbeebies and Disney Junior will fight it out with Cyw for Channel of the Year.

In addition, the BAFTA Kids’ Vote has also launched, in which children aged between seven and 14 have their say in a nationwide poll to choose their favourite film, TV show, website and game.

"Presenting the British Academy Children’s Awards is a way for me to say thank you to children’s TV for the career it has given me, and I can’t wait," said Jake Humphrey. "We all remember the shows we watched as children; for me it was Pigeon Street, Knightmare and Live & Kicking.

"The fact these memories are so strong 25 years later is a reminder of the deep impact children’s programming has on the audience."
