Disney-Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War is set to become the biggest movie of the year worldwide by this weekend.
The film is set to reach $1 billion at the worldwide box office, making it the 25th movie to do so.
So far the film has become the highest grosser of the year, making $10 million on Wednesday taking its worldwide total up to $981.9 million.
Disney’s animated film Zootopia has been this year’s top title so far, having taken $971 million since its March debut.
The movie, which sees Captain America take on Iron Man, is also the 7th superhero movie to gross more than $1 billion worldwide, after the release of The Avengers which grossed $1.52 billion.
This is followed by Avengers: Age of Ultron which made $1.41 billion, Iron Man 3 which took £1.22 billion, The Dark Knight Rises which made $1.09 billion and The Dark Knight which secured $1.04 billion.
However, it’s expected to be a close call this weekend, as Captain America: Civil War goes up against The Angry Birds Movie and Neighbours 2: Sorority Rising.
