Care Bears grows digital reach with new apps

American Greetings Properties is expanding the digital of the popular Care Bears with six new mobile apps scheduled for release this year.

The new apps will span entertainment, books, interactive storybook, comic books and games.

In partnership with Lion Forge, AGP will launch a series of interactive comic books. The series will launch in June and is aimed at complementing a line of specialty goods, available in retailers from 2016.

July will see Bare Tree Media make its debut with Care Bears emoticons, stickers and themes launching with leading messenger apps including BAND, Blackberry Messenger and Viber.

Meanwhile, in August, the Care Bears’ first ‘appisode’, titled care Bear-a-Thon, will roll out in a new partnership with Plumzi. Each appisode will be animated episodes that stop periodically to allow the viewer to interact with characters.

In October, Plumzi will push its second appisode for Care Bears, called In a Flash. Both will then be available on multiple platforms.

Finally, PlayDate digital will release Care Bear digital storybooks, launching with Sleepytime: Rise and Shine, featuring three new Care Bears songs.

“We are very excited to be working with innovative partners who are passionate about developing new interactive experiences for the Care Bears,” said Megan Buettner, head of creative and new media, AGP.

“We look forward to creating new ways for fans to enjoy the brand in 2015 and beyond.”
