CBBC greenlights contemporary take on Arabian Nights

Hit children’s broadcasters CBeebies and CBBC have co-commissioned a contemporary reworking of the classic tale, Arabian Nights.

Produced by Kindle Entertainment, Mediamax and Toonz Entertainment, the live action series will be titled Jamillah & Aladdin.

The series will follow the adventures of a 21st century London girl who discovers a lamp with the powers to transport her to ancient Baghdad. There she meets Aladdin and thus a whole world of new adventures unfolds.

Filming of the series has already commenced on location in south Africa’s Western Cape.

The series was co-commissioned by Kay Benbow, controller of CBeebies and Cheryl Taylor, controller of CBBC.

“Jamillah and Aladdin will transport viewers to an enchanting world full of adventure and intrigue,” said Benbow.“The series is packed with wonderful stories that will delight and entertain our combined audiences.”

Imira Entertainment is on board to distribute the series worldwide following final production.
