Exeter University Cricket club wins competition to be immortalised in-game.

Celebrities back official Ashes Cricket 2013 game

A licensed Ashes Cricket 2013 video game will hit shelves on June 21st in the UK – which has received the backing of several celebrities.

505 Games will publish the game for PC, Wii U, Xbox 360 and PS3. It will launch in time for the Ashes Series that takes place in England and then a few months later in Australia.

Exeter University Cricket club will also be in the game after winning a competition. The club received the support of celebrities including Hugh Grant, Liz Hurley and more.

Piers Morgan also also took to Twitter in the competition to lend his support to Oxford Brookes, while Gary Lineker, ex England cricketers Darren Gough and Phil Tufnell and current England batting sensation Joe Root encouraged their followers to pick a team and vote.

“2013 is another big year for International Cricket and it doesn’t get much bigger than the Ashes Series” commented Ralph Pitt-Stanley, General Manager for UK & Export at 505 Games “The oldest rivalry in the sport recommences on July 10th, so it’s a really exciting time to be working with the ECB, Cricket Australia and such a great development partner as Trickstar on this product."

John Perera, Commercial Director ECB, added: “The ECB is committed to bringing new fans into the sport, and the Ashes Cricket 2013 game will do just that in conjunction with the real thing – the Investec Ashes Series 2013. Most of the current England side are keen gamers, and will no doubt be spending a lot of time playing it whilst preparing for the real thing come the summer."
