BAFTA award-winning kids’ character, Pingu is celebrating its 30th anniversary with a waddle into the world of fashion.
British designers Phiney Pet and The Rodnik band have signed with the heritage property to develop an exclusive capsule collection starring the popular penguin.
Inspired by the iconography of Pingu and the trend for 90s revival, the Rodnik Band’s collection of 30 pieces includes pop art inspired leather handbags and rucksacks as well as a range of phone cases.
Meanwhile, Phiney Pet will deliver a collection of 18 pieces, including hand painted leathers, luxe faux furs and bold printed pinafores.
The range of collectors’ items will land in Colette Paris at the end of the month with prices ranging from £30 to £370 for bags and £80 to £1,000 for woemsnwear.
Trinity Smith, category manager, Mattel Softlines, EMEA, said: “We are delighted to be partnering with hugely talented designers Phiney Pet and The Rodnik Band for this playful fashion project.
“The collections are bold and a little bit cheeky, just like Pingu and will evoke a sense of nostalgia that will surely delight his dedicated fashion-forward fans.
“As we move into 2017 we are looking forward to launching an exciting new Pingu licensing programme, focusing on key categories including fashion apparel, accessories, gift, stationery and health and beauty and we look forward to talking to licensees about this fantastic opportunity.”
