DCD to represent mum who ate on £10 a week

DCD Publishing has signed a global representation deal with a mum who ate on £10 a week.

Jack Monroe updated her progress on her own popular budget food blog A Girl Called Jack.

DCD has already struck a cookbook deal with Penguin UK; the book will feature over 100 recipes and will hit shelves in March 2014.

As well as publishing, DCD represents Jack for TV, licensing, endorsements, consumer products, public appearances and DVD.

In 2012, then unemployed Southend-on-Sea single mother Jack Monroe found herself with a food budget of just £10 a week last year, to nourish both herself and her son.

She addressed the situation with "immense resourcefulness, creativity and a commendable acquaintance with her local supermarket’s Basics range".

Monroe started her blog on how to eat cheaply, which currently has a whopping 100,000 unique visitor hits a day.

Her recipes are published and illustrated online, and are even being handed out by food banks as examples of how to manage on next to nothing.

Today she works as a reporter for Essex Echo. 

Monroe also wrote the diet for BBC News Finance Reporter Brian Milligan’s ‘Live Below The Line’challenge, as part of the Global Poverty Project.

The book deal was brokered by Robert Gwyn Palmer, Head of Publishing at DCD Publishing, with Lindsey Evans, Cookery Publisher at Penguin Group UK for Michael Joseph.
