Dino-mite: Universal’s Hannah Mungo details the licensing programme for Jurassic World

Jurassic World: when does it open and what’s exciting about it?

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom opens in cinemas in June 2018. It’s exciting because it’s the fifth instalment of the Jurassic World franchise and follows the wildly successful Jurassic World film of 2015. 2018 is sure to be the year of the dinosaur, as the original movie – Jurassic Park – is celebrating its 25th anniversary.

Tell us about the new movie licensing programme

In the UK region, we have a variety of licensees in place across all key categories, including apparel and accessories, publishing, dress up, toys and games, partyware, homewares and food. We will also sign outdoor and wheeled toys, gifting, consumables, and puzzles to complete the strong lineup. Products will target kids 6-11 years and a secondary audience of nostalgic millennials and adult fans. Global toy partners Mattel and LEGO will lead the retail roll-out with first products launching from 16th April 2018, ahead of the film’s June opening. Indeed the first reveals of the toy lines from LEGO and Mattel which were timed to Nuremberg and New York Toy Fair have created a massive buzz amongst consumers and retailers alike.

Jurassic World has always had huge cross-generational family appeal.

What will you do to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the original film?

To celebrate 25th Anniversary of Jurassic Park, there will be a 25th Jurassic Park In Concert tour that will visit 15 cities across the UK from September. Fans can experience this ground-breaking film as never before: projected in HD with a full symphony orchestra performing John Williams’ magnificent score live to picture. Other 25th Anniversary activities include a social media campaign with clips of ‘Best of’ Jurassic Park moments, Special 25th Anniversary DVD box sets, and celebratory product collections targeting older fans of the original movie and new, younger fans too.

Why do you think the franchise is so successful?

Jurassic World has always had huge cross-generational family appeal and this newest film, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom promises to be one of the biggest movie events of 2018. The eternally popular themes of dinosaurs, survival and adventure are key to its success and there is huge demand for this franchise, which has delivered top grossing movies for the last 25 years.
