Producer wants to go back to working on more mature movies like Black Hawk Down, Enemy of the State and The Rock

Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer call time on 20 year partnership

Disney and producer Jerry Bruckheimer are ending their partnership in 2014, states The Hollywood Reporter.

The two will not renew their first-look deal when it runs out next year.

Despite rumours that the poor box office returns of The Lone Ranger added strain to the relationship, Bruckheimer maintains the reason lies in the fact he wants to do different types of movies.

"It’s time for us to tackle all kinds of movies, not just Disney movies," Bruckheimer told The Hollywood Reporter.

"We’re still working on Pirates and hopefully National Treasure, and we still have development at Disney.

"We have a full body of work with them. It’s not about Lone Ranger. It’s more about the types of movies Disney is making, and the types of movies we want to make, in addition to Pirates."

In an official statement, Bruckheimer added: "I am very appreciative of the wonderful collaboration and support I have had at The Walt Disney Company for over twenty years and the twenty-seven movies we have made together.

"I am thankful to have had the opportunity to work with these amazing people at The Walt Disney Studios, many of whom have become my good friends.

"As we continue to make adventure films, we look forward to returning to films like Black Hawk Down, Enemy of the State, Beverly Hills Cop, and The Rock."

Walt Disney Studios Chairman Alan Horn added: "Jerry is one of the most respected and prolific producers working in the motion picture industry, and we have had an incredibly successful collaboration over the past two decades. He is a friend to many of us here at Disney.

"We will continue to work together in the future, and we look forward to seeing more of the films that have made Jerry Bruckheimer a Hollywood legend."

Bruckheimer will continue to work with Disney on selected projects, including the next Pirates of the Caribbean film.
