Disney dates new animated film Moana

Walt Disney Animation Studios’ upcoming film Moana has been dated to hit cinemas in late 2016.

The film will be helmed by Ron Clements and Jon Musker, the directors of Aladdin, The Little Mermaid and The Princess and the Frog.

Set in the ancient South Pacific world of Oceania, Moana follows the hero of the title as she heads off on an impossible mission to fulfill her ancestors’ quest.

‘During her incredible journey, she teams up with her hero, the legendary demi-god Maui, to traverse the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous sea creatures, breathtaking underworlds and ancient folklore,’ read a statement on Disney’s Oh My Disney blog.

“Moana is indomitable, passionate and a dreamer with a unique connection to the ocean itself,” said Musker.

“She’s the kind of character we all root for, and we can’t wait to introduce her to audiences.”
