Disney has dated Star Wars: Episode VIII and revealed the title of its first standalone film in the extended franchise.
The eighth installment in the Star Wars saga is scheduled to hit theatres from May 26th, 2017, the studio confirmed at a shareholders meeting this week.
Meanwhile, the first standalone film will be titled Rogue One and will be directed by Gareth Edwards, the man behind 2014’s Godzilla.
Production on the title is scheduled to begin in London this summer and the film – starring The Theory of Everything’s Felicity Jones – will open in December 16th, 2016.
Details of the Rian Hohnson- helmed Star Wars: Episode VIII are being kept firmly under wraps by both Disney and Lucasfilm or the mean time.
JJ Abrams’ Star Wars: The Force Awakens will hit cinemas on December 18th this year.
