The first full trailer for Disney’s upcoming live-action Aladdin movie has just landed, and, with a prolonged profiling of Will Smith’s Genie, appears to have tempered the internet’s uproar.
Proving that he can really work magic, Will Smith’s take on the film’s most famed character seems to have done enough to sedate online fans of the 1992 original, proving himself to be more than just a meme in the meantime.
Directed by Guy Ritchie of Lock Stock and Snatch fame, the live-action remake of Aladdin is based on the 1992 animated classic and stars Will Smith as the Genie, Mena Massoud as the title character Aladdin and Naomi Scott as Princess Jasmine.
Marwan Kenzari is taking on the role of the evil Jafar.
The full length trailer treats audiences to snippets of ‘Friend Like Me’ and ‘A Whole New World.’
This is just one of a number of live-action adaptations Disney has in the works for this year, with Tim Burton’s Dumbo and Jon Favreau’s The Lion King also bowing in the coming months.
Last year, Disney released Mary Poppins Returns, a sequel to the 1964 musical. It generated $347 million at the global box office.
Aladdin hits theatres on May 24th.
