Disney value soars after new Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer

Disney has released a new teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, adding almost $2bn to the firm’s value in the process.

The new two-minute clip offering fans a first glimpse of returning characters Han Solo and Chewbacca was released on Thursday, April 16th.

The new trailer was launched to coincide with the start of the four-day Star Wars celebration event in Anaheim, California.

Treating fans to numerous blasts from the pasts, the clip includes a monologue from Luke Skywalker, a shot of Darth Vader’s partially destroyed helmet, a downed Star Destroyer and an army of Storm Troopers.

However, the biggest thrill of the clip arrives courtesy of Harrison Ford as Han Solo as he addresses he intergalactic partner: “Chewie, we’re home.”

Upon the release of the new footage earlier this week, shares in the US studio began to rise, reaching a high of $108.30.

The Star Wars films and their re-releases have generated $4.54bn in worldwide ticket sales, reports the Telegraph.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is now expected to become another smash hit for the studio.

Starring Mark Hamill, Harrison ford, Carrie Fisher and newcomers Oscar Isaac, daisy Ridley and John Boyega, the new title will be released on December 18th.
