Disney’s Inside Out has scored the second best US debut ever for Pixar, achieving a $91 million opening weekend.
The animated feature places second behind only Toy Story 3’s $110.3 million debut.
Inside Out also secured the highest opening weekend ever for an original, non-sequel title, a record previously held by James Cameron’s Avatar, which took $77 million when it debuted in 2009.
Inside Out’s second place opening breaks Pixar’s run at the top of the charts that started back in 1995 with the release of Toy Story. All 14 of the studio’s previous films had opened at number one.
The titled was kept off the top spot by Jurassic World that roared into the lead with $102million.
The film also opened to $41 million internationally from 37 markets for a global launch of $132.1 million.
