DCD Publishing has licensed the rights of the Duchess of Northumberland to award winning preserve producers The Mercers to launch the brand’s first ever food range.
The first three products to be created under licence will include a Fine Cut and a Thick Cut Seville Orange and Lemon Marmalade, and a Clear Quince Marmalade.
The Quince Marmalade recipe is one of the earliest known marmalade recipes in the world and all products have been inspired by traditional recipes found in the extensive archive of the iconic 1,000 year old Alnwick Castle and have been made available to the public for the first time.
The first three products are expected to be on the shelves from early summer 2013, and the range will develop in the future to incorporate more marmalades, conserves and chutney products.
Paul Mercer, director, The Mercers, said: “As a manufacturer of preserves we’re always looking for new products, ideally with a genuine and fascinating story behind them. Clearly the Duchess of Northumberland products tick both boxes.
“The same brands have dominated the preserve market for many years, and the new products will spark fresh interest with consumers who are always on the lookout for something new and special,” Mercer added.
The food range is part of the growing brand activity for The Duchess of Northumberland that already includes clothing with Alan Paine and book publishing with The History Press (“The Duchess of Northumberland’s Little Book of Preserves and Jams’ and ‘The Duchess of Northumberland’s Little Book of Poisons and Potions’ to launch early summer 2013).
Other projects in development include a Deadly Jane branded beauty range, a further book deal that packages one of her main interests – The Encyclopedia of Poisons – and a movie project based on her Poison Diaries book franchise.
