4Kids Entertainment has added former TV-Loonland pre-school property, Penelope, to its portfolio.
4Kids will represent the brand worldwide, excluding Asia and France.
Penelope is based on the best selling books, first published by Gallimard Jeunesse in France, and have since been translated into more than 14 languages, with over two million copies sold worldwide. To date, Gallimard Jeunesse has published 48 titles including pop-up books, soft cover books and gift books.
In addition, a TV series airs in Japan, France, the UK, Australia, Italy, the Nordics, Africa, Israel and Slovenia.
"Penelope has enormous potential, pre-schoolers love the books and TV show and parents are also very enthusiastic, as it teaches children about the world around them," said Sandra Vauthier-Cellier, MD of 4Kids. "This gives us a fantastic platform from which to develop the property's licensing programme and we will be looking to sign licensees across a range of sectors."
