Aardman grows digital sector for Shaun the Sheep

New games launching on the IOS store, while online community continues to expand.

Aardman Animations is continuing to establish Shaun the Sheep in the digital arena.

Aardman Digital is planning to release a second instalment of its online game Home Sheep Home - the first game reached 100 million plays in just over 18 months.

The original Home Sheep Home was launched back in February 2010 and was a viral success, reaching up to 880,000 plays in a single day. It received a further boost from the launch of the game in China.

It was released on the IOS store in May 2011 and reached number six in the UK games chart. Additional levels will be launched to users over the coming weeks.

A further game - Fleeced Lightning - is due to launch in January 2012.

On top of this, Shaun the Sheep now has more than 1.6 million Facebook fans and over 140,000 registered users on the official website. The online community has been further boosted by the launch of the official German site - Shaun Das Schaf - which has its own dedicated community manager.

The characters will also be appearing in an exclusive series of 15 x one-minute 3D shorts for the Nintendo 3DS via its wireless Spotpass system, with production scheduled to begin in early 2012.

"The Shaun brand has seen tremendous international growth over the last couple of years, a key stimulus to this has been down to Aardman embracing new and emerging digital platforms," said Sean Clarke, head of Aardman Rights.
