Albert René Editions has handed the management of its hit Asterix and Friends videogame to Bandai Namco Entertainment.

The online game is currently accessible via the firm’s Facebook page and has already seen over two million players register since its launch earlier this year.

Namco Bandai has since hinted that a number of new developments are now in store for the game as the firm strengthens is portfolio of Western licenses and IPs.

“We are tremendously happy to be collaborating with Les Editions Albert René on the successful Asterix and Friends game,” said Tatsuya Kubota, head at mobile and web gaming at Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe.

“This move strengthens our portfolio of western licenses which, alongside our core IPs coming from the east, will allow us to truly provide more fun for everyone.”

The Asterix and Friends game was developed by Sproing and is currently available in four languages: French, English, German and Spanish.

Baptiste Cazaux, head of licensing at Albert René Editions, added: “We are very proud to announce this partnership with Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe on our game Asterix and Friends which is already a real success on Facebook.

“It’s very important for us to have a leader company to help us to continue the development of this fantastic game.”

With a new book and animated movie on the way, there are exciting times ahead for the classic comic property.
