Sales figures from BDO's High Street Sales Tracker for the week ending February 7th, showed total sales up by 20 per cent.

Leading the way was the fashion sector, with retailers continuing to report elevated growth with positive sales for a fourth week in a row. Seasonal ranges continued to sell well, while formalwear was also in high demand.

Elsewhere, non fashion sales rose by 9.9 per cent, with luxury, gifting and leisure the strongest performers.

Homewares was up 7.3 per cent, while non-store sales rose by 39.3 per cent, with strong sales being reported across most categories. Again, fashion was a key performer.

"All sectors showed a sharp increase in sales this week, jumping by 20 per cent," said Don Williams, head of retail at BDO. "However, given that this time last year figures were low due to heavy snowfall, the underlying sales trend rose only marginally."
