Marvel Entertainment has teamed up with Threadless to launch a new collection of Spider-Man apparel.
Threadless is a creative community that makes, supports and buys art. Thousands of people worldwide submit their designs online, and the community then picks the ones which get made into t-shirts, bags, wall art and more.
The collection of 26 tees spolights Spidey clashing with foes like Doc Ock, Venom and the Green Goblin. They will be sold exclusively on Threadless.
To create the line, artists from around the world were invited to reinterpret the battle between Spider-Man and his most vicious enemies and had three weeks to submit their designs.
Threadless and Marvel chose two grand prize winners from the 1,100 submissions: Inertia by Alan Bao of Toronto, Canada earned $5,000, while $8,000 went to Spider Sense Tingling, a collaboration between Rafael Pykee and brothers Francis and Laurence Minoza from the Philippines.
"Marvel has created some of the world's most iconic Super Heroes - it's an honour to work alongside a brand that resonates so closely with the Threadless artist community," said co-founder and CEO, Jake Nickell.
The launch of the Spider-Man collection marks the beginning of an ongoing collaboration between the two brands. The Threadless community of artists will be given the opportunity to put their own spin on many of Marvel's characters, with an Iron Man collection already slated for later this year.
