Asterix heads to mobile

Electronic Arts to roll out official mobile game of the new movie later this month.
Publish date:

With the new live action film Asterix at the Olympic Games due to hit cinemas shortly, Electronic Arts has been busy readying a tie-in mobile game.

It follows a deal between EA and licensors La Petite Reine and Editions Albert Rene for the exclusive wireless device rights. The launch of the game is due to coincide with the arrival of the film, which stars Gerard Depardieu as Obelix.

The platform adventure follows the plot of the film, as Asterix and Obelix compete in Greece to win the hand of Princess Irina for young Gaul Lovestorix. Players start out on the streets of Athens before qualifying for events such as long jump, running, disk, football and the chariot race finale.

"A faithful rendition of the Asterix cartoon style, a variety of fun gameplay options and the innovative twist on sporting events means that this casual game appeals on many levels," said EA Mobile producer, James Dillon.

"We're pleased to extend the enjoyment of the film onto mobile and enable players to lead these famous characters to their destinies."

With a new book and animated movie on the way, there are exciting times ahead for the classic comic property.
