The Perth Mint is celebrating the legacy of Star Trek: The Original Series with the release of two silver commemorative coins.

Marking the start of a new collector series, the 1oz silver proof tributes feature Captain Kirk and the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 as they appeared in the original show.

The reverse of the Captain Kirk coin portrays a coloured image of actor William Shatner as his Star Trek onscreen character, while the reverse of the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 coin depicts the United Federation of Planets’ logo and a colour image of the iconic starship flying through space.

Each design also boasts The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark.

The obverse of each coin depicts the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the monetary denomination, and the 2015 year-date.

“The Star Trek franchise is revered and followed by millions of fans worldwide and The Perth Mint is honoured to be a part of its legacy with the release of these precious metal collectables,” said Perth Mint sales and marketing director Ron Currie.

5,000 of the 2015 Star Trek Captain James T. Kirk 1oz Silver Proof Coin, 5,000 of the 2015 Star Trek U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 1oz Silver Proof Coin and 1,500 of the 2015 Star Trek Two-Coin Set have been created.

Each coin is available individually at the price of $115.00, or as a two-coin set retailing at $230.00, from The Perth Mint Shop.
