The Bakugan craze is set to get even bigger, with Nelvana - and its global partners Spin Master, Sega Toys and TMS Entertainment - confirming they are producing an additional 26 episodes, entitled Bakugan: New Vestroia.
Currently airing on Cartoon Network in the US and Teletoon in Canada, the second season will follow the popular characters as they join forces with the Bakugan Resistance in order to restore peace and freedom to their planet.
New episodes will be ready for spring 2009.
"Bakugan is quickly becoming the number one 'gotta-have' boys action property for both broadcasters and retailers," said Doug Murphy, president of Nelvana and general manager of Corus Kids. "This is truly an international success story, highlighting an outstanding working partnership of companies from Canada, the US and Japan."
Spin Master, the property's toys and accessories partner, has been enjoying some strong sales of its Bakugan spheres (which transform into battle brawling action figures when rolled onto special game cards). There is overwhelming product demand in the US, where 2.5 Bakugan per second are being sold, according to the firm.
The toys - which are also currently available in Canada, Australia and much of Asia - will debut in France and the UK in time for Christmas, with the rest of Europe rolling out through 2009 along with related broadcast launches.
As Bakugan's exclusive licensing agent in the US, Cartoon Network Enterprises has signed several new partners in the soft lines categories including apparel, sleepwear, footwear, swimwear and accessories.
DVDs of first season episodes were released in August by Cartoon Network and Warner Home Video in the US, plus Vivendi Home Entertainment in Canada.
