Great Britain's most successful boxer, Nicola Adams has inspired a new Barbie doll, as part of the brand's effort to empower girls around the world.

84 per cent of UK mums worry about the kind of role models their daughters are exposed to, and this latest move signifies an effort to show girls that they have the potential to become anything they want.

The Nicola Adams doll – the first ever boxer Barbie – is Nicola in miniature, complete with boxing gloves to shatter any glass ceiling, boxing gear emblazoned with her trademark ‘Lioness’ nickname, and immortalises Nicola’s distinctive hairstyle.

“I am so excited and honoured to be Barbie’s first ever UK Shero and the first ever boxer Barbie. Having my own Nicola Adams Barbie doll is so amazing and my hope is that everything I do helps more people realise they can do anything they put their mind to," commented Adams.

Finding that 72 per cent of UK girls are inspired by their role model’s achievements, Barbie is asking fans of all ages to share#MoreRoleModels – sparking a global call to action by asking fans to tag and share the female role models that inspire them, using #MoreRoleModels on social media.

"Without my own role models, I wouldn’t be where I am today. Growing up, my biggest role models were my mum and Muhammed Ali – there were no female boxers in media when I was a kid, and I might have discovered my passion sooner if I’d seen other women boxing," she continued.

"That’s why empowering the next generation of kids is something I’m passionate about and it’s great to work with Barbie to share my story now. I hope my doll inspires young girls to believe that they can break boundaries in whatever they choose to do.”

lobal honourees announced today include: Patty Jenkins, Filmmaker, USA, Chloe Kim, Snowboarder, USA, Bindi Irwin, Conservationist, Australia, Ça?la Kubat, Windsurfer, Turkey, Hélène Darroze, World-renowned Chef, France, Hui Ruoqi, Volleyball Champion, China, Leyla Piedayesh, Designer and Entrepreneur, Germany, Lorena Ochoa, Professional Golfer, Mexico, Martyna Wojciechowska, Journalist, Poland, Sara Gama, Soccer Player, Italy, Xiaotong Guan, Actress and Philanthropist, China, Yuan Yuan Tan, Prima Ballerina, China, Vicky Martin Berrocal, Entrepreneur and Fashion Designer, Spain.

“As a brand that inspires the limitless potential in girls, Barbie will be honouring its largest line up of role models timed to International Women’s Day, because we know that you can’t be what you can’t see.” said Lisa McKnight, SVP and GM of Barbie. “Girls have always been able to play out different roles and careers with Barbie and we are thrilled to shine a light on real life role models to remind them that they can be anything.”
