BBC Worldwide announces new adult licences

BBC heads to the two big trade buying events, Spring Fair and Toy Fair, with a host of new brands and products.
Publish date:

The firm has made it easy to find all BBC licensed merchandise in one place at Spring Fair with a dedicated stand to promote and exhibit products from key licensees.

The Spring Fair stand at 5C17, Hall 5, will be staffed by key members of the newly restructured and renamed Children’s and Licensing team in a bid to maximise licensing opportunities for adult brands such as Top Gear, Planet Earth and Doctor Who and maintain existing popular children’s brands such as In the Night Garden, Charlie and Lola and Teletubbies.

The team will also be on hand to discuss new licensing projects such as Lonely Planet, Strictly Come Dancing and Harry and Toto.

BBC Worldwide’s stand will have three large display areas to showcase key licensed product covering In the Night Garden, Charlie and Lola and Top Gear. Timed for the launch of the third series of Primeval, and maintaining success of Doctor Who in 2009, both brands will take over a dedicated display area on the stand.

Strictly Come Dancing is a new addition to BBC Worldwide’s licensed product portfolio and a central themed area on the stand is set to showcase the brand.

Top Gear is a big push at this year’s Fair with master toy licensee Wow! Stuff exhibiting its new range of gifts for dads and lads. The Wow! Stuff stand is to host a branded Top Gear area showcasing new products such as remote control vehicles, novelty gifts and desktop toys, all due to hit retailers in Autumn 09.

The Top Gear range is extended with calendars from Danilo, stationery and tableware from DNC and Top Trumps from Winning Moves.

Another focus of BBC Worldwide’s adult brands is Torchwood with new licensee Get Retro exhibiting its range of five-inch action figures at the Fair.

Charlie and Lola will see the launch of Golden Bear’s new Bouncing Lola toy, plus a comprehensive range of other plush, games and wooden toys. Wild and Wolf and Talking Tables will also be present at the Fair with their full range of Charlie and Lola giftware and paper partyware.

At Toy Fair, the company will be supporting all existing licensees and scoping the market for new opportunities for their new brands.

New to launch this year is the In the Night Garden Crayola arts and crafts range from Vivid Imaginations and nursery toys from Golden Bear.

Doctor Who, returns with some new lines from Character Options including “collect and build” figures, Time Squad collectible figures, further classic figures and the Doctor’s Book of Impossible Things.

Doctor Who games are a well covered category with the recent launch of a new DVD game from Screenlife, joining Winning Moves' Top Trumps and Flair's Uno and Etch a Sketch games.

BBC Worldwide will also be presenting its new ‘monsters’ style guide – a creative focussing on perennially popular ‘monster’ characters from the show which will offer more opportunity for exciting product development for key licensees across 2009.

Also at Toy Fair, Character Group will present their extended Primeval toy range.
