The latest sales figures from BDO Stoy Hayward's High Street Sales Tracker (for the week ending August 23rd) have shown that, while fashion is still struggling, the homewares sector is continuing on its recent good run.

Overall sales for the week dropped by 4.3 per cent, which represents the steepest fall in overall takings for seven weeks.

Non fashion retailers saw takings slide (down 2.6 per cent), with sales across most sectors subdued, while the fashion sector dipped even further (down 5.6 per cent), with sales suffering from a shortage of discounting activity and lower footfall.

Homewares, however, grew by 2.8 per cent and non-store channels continued to grow strongly, up 59.5 per cent.
