Beano jokes around with Smiffy's

Line of novelty jokes featuring Beano characters to roll out following new deal.

Start Licensing has secured a new deal with Smiffy's for a line of Beano-branded jokes.

The jokes, which sell at pocket money prices, feature classic prank jokes such as instant car scratches and wobbly golf balls, through to novelty items like fake noses.

The jokes are presented on Beano-branded cards which include a Beano comic strip on the reverse and feature specially created Beano artwork to match the joke.

Particular characters have been chosen for the suitability to specific jokes - for example Dennis the Menace is shown using the Squirty Calculator from the collection.

"This is a great prodict area for The Beano to be active in," said Ian Downes, boss of Start Licensing. "The Beano is all about fun and characters like Dennis the Menace are expert pranksters. Smiffy's recognised this and took the bold decision to re-brand their range.

"This boldness has been rewarded with an eye catching range that has specific artwork associated with it. We are confident that this will be a great collaboration which represents a perfect example of licensing - the blending of The Beano's core characteristics with a highly competent licensee's skills in a focused way."
