The Contender Entertainment Group has acquired the worldwide distribution rights to It’s A Big Big World, a pre-school show with a strong environmental theme.
Contender will manage the international TV sales, home entertainment and merchandising. Emmy nominated, It’s A Big Big World revolves around a character called Snook (a seven foot dancing sloth who lives in the World Tree), his group of friends and the rainforest where they all live. Each episode puts an emphasis on science and environmental awareness.
Season one consists of 40 episodes – each with two separate adventures – while season two is currently in production, with 15 episodes ready by October, a DVD special and 25 additional episodes ready for September 2009.
Muriel Thomas, head of international distribution at Contender, and Andrew Carley, the firm’s head of merchandising, said: “We are delighted to be able to add It’s A Big Big World to our small portfolio of successful pre-school properties. It is a great privilege to be working with Mitchell [Kriegman, show creator], who has an outstanding and proven reputation as a creator of children’s programming, and we are confident that It’s A Big Big World will be a huge success, both in the UK and internationally.”
Kriegman (who has also worked on Bear in the Big Blue House and Book of Pooh, amongst others) added: “Contender’s talented team has proven formidable in the marketplace and their boutique approach is a perfect fit for me as an independent producer.”
