Chapman and Fifi make Russia move

Kidz Entertainment/EEMC secures deals with licensees and broadcast partner in territory.

Chapman Entertainment is working with Kidz Entertainment/EEMC to introduce popular girls' property Fifi and the Flowertots to the Russian market.

The pre-school show has been acquired by Channel Russia for its 'Good Night Kids' block, where it will air twice weekly.

Meanwhile, C-Toys is on board as the toy partner, while Rosman, one of Russia's leading children's publishing houses, has been secured for licensed books and activity publishing.

The two companies are due to announce further deals for the territory soon, including magazines, puzzles, games and confectionery.

"Russia is reasonably untapped from a licensing point of view and we have secured strong partners already," said Val Fry, director of licensing at Chapman Entertainment. "We are looking to focus our efforts on key products and retail support and we are hopeful of a successful 2009 in Russia with Fifi and the Flowertots."

Morten Geschwendtner, chairman of Kidz Entertainment/EEMC, added: "Channel Russia's Good Night Kids is the strongest timeslot for kids programming in Russia by far. Such significant TV commitment is great for Fifi and, together with her successful track record in other markets and obvious appeal to pre-school girls, we are certain she is going to be a great success.

"Fifi's introduction to Russia is one of our most significant achievements in this market to date and we'll be working with the channel and with toy partner C-Toys to make the most of every opportunity as we sign up other licensees."
