CHINA: Nick's Spongebob hits the top

Show ranks number one across all children's/teenage programmes in 15 key cities.

Nickelodeon has seen Spongebob Squarepants make a storming return to China Central Television's (CCTV) kids channel, with the show ranking as number one across all children's/teenage programmes/channels in 15 key cities - reaching some 20.5 million homes.

Spongebob Squarepants first aired in China on CCTV in 2006, while it was also shown from September to December 2007.

It returned across CCTV's kids channels on December 25th 2008, finishing number one among children aged four to 14 according to CSM Media Research (Dec 25th-Feb 4th 2009).

Almost half (45 per cent) of Spongebob's audience falls into the four to 14 year-old category, while 25 to 44 year olds account for 33 per cent.

Xi'an, Fuzhou, Wuhan, Tianjin, Shenyang and Chengdu are the cities where Spongebob is most watched, again according to CSM Media Research.
