Train-based pre-school series Chuggington is set to get its big break in the US, after owner Ludorum licensed the show to the Disney Channel for its Playhouse Disney programming block.
Disney Channel will launch the series - which consists of 52 episodes - in spring 2010. The station has access to more than 97 million viewing households and has acquired all broadcast rights to the property.
Chuggington has now been licensed to 145 territories worldwide and, since the start of this year, has established a successful ratings record in several key international markets. These include the UK (BBC/Cbeebies), Germany (Super RTL), France (TF1), Australia (ABC) and Canada (Treehouse).
An agreement was also inked back in March to licence Chuggington to Fuji Television, the dominant commercial broadcaster in Japan, with the show due to air this summer.
Learning Curve Brands, a subsidiary of RC2, holds the global master toy licence and is due to roll out product worldwide in 2010, along with several other partners.
