Despicable Me: Minion Rush, the mobile game which launched on June 13th, has now reached over 100 million downloads worldwide.
Variety reports that the free-to-play game, produced by Gameloft, surpassed 50 million downloads only one month after its release on iOS and Android devices.
The game is now expected to continue its strong performance for Universal and Illumination Entertainment as the game expands with new levels.
Featuring characters and locations from the film Despicable Me 2, Gameloft will be adding a new beach level with new characters such as Snorkeler Minion and Surfer Minion.
Stephanie Sperber, president of Universal Partnerships and Licensing, said: "Gameloft did an incredible job recreating the Minions and the environments from the movies.
"We are continuing to work hard to bring new and exciting content to the game to engage the millions of fans who enjoy Minion Rush on a daily basis."
Julien Fournials, senior VP, production at Gameloft, added: "Bringing the Minions o life in a game was great fun.
"Our collaboration brought a lot of authenticity to the table, from the Minion voices to the uniquely comedic gamleplay, and that authenticity helped introduce a lot of fans to the game."
The Minions have proved popular enough to star in their own movie, with Minions scheduled to land in cinemas in 2015.
