DHX signs digital broadcast deal in China

Extends the reach of its key brands in the market with deal with CME and Alebrije Entertainment.

DHX Media has inked a deal with China Mobile Entertainment Holdings Ltd (CME) and Alebrije Entertainment LLC for a new SVOD edutainment channel on PPTV.

The deal encompasses over 900 episodes from series including Arthur, Caillou, The Busy World of Richard Scarry, Care Bears, Madeline and Where on Earth is Carmen San Diego?

“DHX Media’s television series are very popular with kids between the ages two to seven. The edutainment channel launch will be a great tool for children in China to be entertained while being educated," said Jingyu Qiu, GM, PPLive International.

"We are excited to partner with China Mobile Entertainment Holdings Ltd and Alebrije Entertainment LLC; offering a suite of DHX Media content on our channel to Chinese, Hong Kong and Taiwanese audiences. This will make learning a fun experience for kids in China. Educational content is very dear to the Chinese.”

Josh Scherba, SVP Distribution at DHX Media said: “This is a significant deal for us - one which expands the reach of our brands into the rapidly growing Chinese digital market. We already have a number of shows performing strongly on VOD platforms in the territory but this will add to the content available.”

Mitch Sandler CEO, of CME in conjunction with Alebrije Entertainment spearheaded the PPTV Edutainment Channel. Sandler added: "We are delighted to launch this format addressing the 260 million children under the age of 15 in China. We feel the DHX Media series will engage children with an entertaining and educational approach. In addition we will be marketing the service with PPTV to 70,000 private schools across the territory."
