Disney passes $3bn at international box office

Frozen, Iron Man 3, Monsters University and Thor help make 2013 a record breaking year for the film studio

Walt Disney Studios has passed $3 billion at international box office for the first time in its history.

Executives celebrated the record breaking end to the year on December 31st, projected the total figure to be $4.7billion, reports Screen.

The official figure is set to be revealed this week.

Disney enjoyed a number of successes in 2013, with Iron Man 3 contributing $1.22 billion worldwide to the total figure, while Monsters University amassed $475.1million outside of North America and $743.6 million world wide.

Frozen crossed $500 million at the global box office in the last week of 2013.

Thor: The Dark World, that sits at $427 million, is now readying for release in Japan on February 1st.
