Disney has seen an executive shake-up as the film marketing chief Ricky Strauss is named president of content and marketing for the studio’s upcoming streaming service.

Meanwhile, Asad Ayaz will assume the role of president of marketing for the studio, succeeding Strauss who has guided theatrical marketing campaigns over the last few years.

The appointment of Strauss indicated the level of importance Disney is placing on its new streaming service, expected to launch in late 2019.

He will oversee development of the service’s original programming slate, production partnerships and content acquisitions. He will have creative oversight and execution of feature films, episodic series and short –form content.

He will also be responsible for marketing the service, which will serve as the main streaming hub for Disney, Marvel, LucasFilm and Pixar IP.

“We are firtunat to have a wealth of talented leaders at The Walt Disney Studios, and even as the wonderful Ricky Strauss takes on a new role for Disney’s streaming service, the elevation of our own Asad Ayaz and Cathleen Taff provides continuity of leadership alongside new and diverse perspectives that keep our business ahead of the curve,” said Disney Studios chairman, Alan Horn.

Strauss added: “I look forward to collaborating with the many talented content creators around the company to expand the exceptional collection of assets that will make up the future Disney-branded direct-to-consumer streaming service.”
