Disney prepares for streaming service launch with executive shake-up

Disney has seen an executive shake-up as the film marketing chief Ricky Strauss is named president of content and marketing for the studio’s upcoming streaming service.

Meanwhile, Asad Ayaz will assume the role of president of marketing for the studio, succeeding Strauss who has guided theatrical marketing campaigns over the last few years.

The appointment of Strauss indicated the level of importance Disney is placing on its new streaming service, expected to launch in late 2019.

Stauss will be tasked with developing the strategic content vision for Disney’s streaming service. He will oversee development of the service’s original programming slate, production partnerships and content acquisitions. He will have creative oversight and execution of feature films, episodic series and short –form content.

He will also be responsible for marketing the service, which will serve as the main streaming hub for Disney, Marvel, LucasFilm and Pixar IP.

Strauss added: “I look forward to collaborating with the many talented content creators around the company to expand the exceptional collection of assets that will make up the future Disney-branded direct-to-consumer streaming service.”
