Disney Consumer Products has unveiled a raft of new toys due to tie in with the summer launch of Cars 2 - with a little help from Sir Michael Caine and actress Emily Mortimer.
A special event at New York Toy Fair saw Caine - the voice of British agent Finn McMissile in the film - and Mortimer - his spy in training, Holley Shiftwell - take part in a panel discussion. They were also presented with custom-built toys celebrating their characters.
The programme is anchored by an array of toys featuring the film's World Grand Prix race and international espionage themes. In addition, Cars 2 will also be supported with stationery, apparel and accessories, home décor, books, food, health and beauty, plus an exclusive range from Disney Store and DisneyStore.com.
In addition to the consumer products launches, Disney has also unveiled two new characters - Miles Axlerod, voiced by Eddie Izzard, and Nigel Gearsley, an Aston Martin DB9R racer.
Key toy lines accompanying the release of Cars 2 will include more than 150 toys from Mattel, such as Lightning McQueen Alive, and more than 70 new collectible die-cast cars.
Lego will introduce its first full line of Cars toys consisting of 20 play-sets recreating key scenes from the film, while Hasbro will launching a range of dedicated classic board games including Cars 2 Monopoly.
