Disney reveals first image of Star Wars: Rogue One

The big reveal was made at this year’s D23 Expo in California.

In a week of big reveals, Disney has released the first image of the full cast for Rogue One, the first Star Wars spin-off.

Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, Forest Whitaker, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk and Riz Ahmed have all been confirmed to star in the new title.

The announcement was made at this year’s D23 Expo in California.

Rogue One takes place before the events of Star Wars: A New Hope and tells the story of resistance fighters who have united to steal plans to the Death Star.

“[The film] goes into new territories, exploring the galactic struggle from a ground-war perspective while maintaining that essential Star Wars feel that fans have come to know,” said producer, Kathleen Kennedy.

The title will be directed by Gareth Edwards, the man behind 2014’s Godzilla.

“Gareth is such an innovative director, and I am so excited to be working with him and the extraordinary ensemble cast he’s selected for Rogue One,” she concluded.

Rogue One will hit theatres on December 16th, 2016.
