Disney's streaming box and a booze-drinking red panda: the week's licensing industry news in review

Only two weeks into the New Year, (it feels like a lifetime already) the licensing industry is buzzing with new collaborations and signings, which has kept all of you well and truly entertained.

We’re all familiar with Sanrio’s iconic Hello Kitty character, well known for her cute outfits and ability to make new friends, but now the firm has unmasked the details of its brand new character, Aggretsuko.

Based in Tokyo where she works as an office associate, the red panda is fond of a drink or two and enjoys the occasional trip to a karaoke bar where she rocks out to the latest heavy metal music.

Everyone’s favourite wizard Harry Potter also cropped up this week, following the news in December that WBCP and gift manufacturer Paladone will create a line of gifts inspired by the young wizard.

No wands will be included in the range, but fans will be able to get their hands on a Hogwarts LED crest light, as well as mugs and notebooks.

December’s news seems to be catching up with many of you, as Lowtech Studios’ new licensing partners for its game Sliter.io slides into the top ten, alongside Shimmer and Shine’s success in the pre-school space.

No stranger to the licensing industry, Disney is taking on the streaming market with its new Disney Kids TV streaming box. With content details kept under wraps for now, Disney has revealed that the box will cost $99 and will boast movies, shows and games for kids to enjoy.

Unsurprisingly, Crayola’s deal with Clinique has remained in the top ten, no doubt thanks to the nostalgia the new Chubby Stick crayon lipsticks bring to the market, while Xilam’s plans to find a master toy partner for Oggy and the Cockroaches has also stayed put this week.

Similarly, Nickelodeon’s plans to develop a new animated series has not been knocked from its post, remaining in the top ten, alongside the impending UK Teletubbies tour, which we all of can’t wait for.

Lastly, fans of Five Night of Freddy’s have been returning to re-live the news that the survival horror game will be turned into a YA novel series. Clearly a lot of you enjoy a slice of pizza while fighting faulty animatronic characters.
