Seminal comedy Monty Python is currently enjoying a huge leap in popularity, in part thanks to the creation of an official channel on YouTube.
The popularity of the clips on the internet lead the team to set up an official channel and ask fans to 'click on the links, buy our movies and TV shows and soften our pain and disgust at being ripped off all these years'.
And the strategy seems to have paid off, with Monty Python DVDs climbing to number two on Amazon's movie and TV bestseller list, with sales increase a staggering 23,000 per cent.
A licensing programme from PPC Enterprises is well underway.
"Monty Python is in the enviable position of being a classic brand with an established fan base, which is constantly being rediscovered by new audiences," said Mark Hurry, legal and commercial director at PPC Enterprises. "Despite it being 40 years old, Python is as popular as ever and the huge increase in DVD sales is testament to that. We anticipate plenty of licensing activity in the coming year as a legion of new fans look for anything Python related."
