E1 Entertainment is to represent classic superhero brand Astro Boy in the UK.

The cartoon hero originally appeared in Japanese comics in 1951 and is now coming to movie screens across the world with a new CGI offering.

A star studded cast will be providing the voices, including Nicholas Cage as Dr Tenma - the genius who creates Astro Boy to replace the son he lost - and Freddie Highmore as Astro Boy. Donald Sutherland, Bill Nighy, Matt Lucas and Nathan Lane also provide voices.

The licensing drive is already looking pretty healthy. Way ahead of the release date of January 29th 2010, there are a number of key partners on board including American Greetings, Penguin, D3 Publisher, IDW comic books, Jazwares, Hot Toys and Pyramid.

E1 is also looking at categories including apparel, fashion accessories, home furnishings, gifts and confectionery.

An exclusive trade screening of the film will take place on July 1st for potential partners.

For further details on the licensing plans for Astro Boy, please contact Hannah Mungo at E1 on 020 7907 3788.
