Electronic Arts has rolled out the accompanying video game to Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince - with the firm confident that the opening of the film next week will see a boost in sales.

The title is available on Nintendo Wii and DS, Microsoft's Xbox 360, Sony's PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2 and PSP, plus PC. The official ELSPA/ChartTrack weekly chart for the week ending July 4th showed the game as a new entry at number ten in the Top 40 All Formats listing.

Within the game, players are able to master gesture-based spell casting as they explore the Hogwarts school grounds. For the first time, players can move and cast spells simultaneously, while also putting their potion making to the test and getting sidetracked by the characters' romantic entanglements.

"This is definitely the most authentic translation from the movies to fiction that we have ever produced," said Harvey Elliott, VP and GM Casual Studios, EA Play Label.

Meanwhile, work has also begun on TT Games' first ever Harry Potter video game. Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4 is due to launch in 2010 and is based on the first four books and films.
