The arrival of EA football video game FIFA 13 helped the UK boxed video games market enjoy its biggest week of the year so far.
The officially licensed title sold over one million units in the UK within its first week, and sold 27 per cent more week-one units than last year’s FIFA 12. It also generated 31 per cent more in revenue, based on opening week sales.
FIFA 13 accounted for 71 per cent of all UK video game boxed unit sales last week and 80 per cent of all entertainment software revenue, up from 62 per cent and 72 per cent respectively for FIFA 12 last year.
The only other video game titles to sell over one million units within their first week on sale are Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Modern Warfare 3 and Black Ops.
FIFA 13 is the licensed video game from publisher EA. It is licensed by global football governing body FIFA.
