Taffy Entertainment has signed a new worldwide licensing and consumer products deal with Atlantyca Entertainment in Italy for Geronimo Stilton, the children’s book series.

Taffy will now oversee most of the worldwide consumer products licensing and promotional rights for Geronimo Stilton. The books are available in over 28 languages and have sold more than 16 million copies to date in Italy alone, with 23 million being sold worldwide in 2006.

The stories focus on the life and adventures of a best selling author called Geronimo Stilton, who is actually a mouse living in New Mouse City on Mouse Island.

Atlantyca will continue to manage all licensing in Italy as well as worldwide publishing. The new agreement follows a similar licensing deal signed earlier this year for the new animated TV series based on the Stilton character.

“Geronimo Stilton is destined to be one of those timeless, ubiquitous brands that we’ll talk about for years to come,” said Cynthia Money, president of worldwide consumer products and marketing for Taffy Entertainment. “We will continue to seek out potential partners who can also bring something to the marketplace that will be equally embraced by both children and parents alike.

“Above all, we will honour the connection kids and parents have with Geronimo and the other characters in everything we develop around the brand.”

The Geronimo Stilton IP was originally launched in early 2000 by leading Italian publisher Edizioni Piemme through a series of books. The simple format of excitement, adventure and humour was an immediate hit.

This year has seen Taffy sign several new deals and debut a number of shows ? all to critical acclaim. However, the firm?s president of worldwide consumer products and marketing, Cynthia Money, believes its biggest achievement to be the successful integration of the European and US-based consumer products teams into a stronger global organisation. And she has big plans going forward, too.
