Fox has secured a deal for new Warner Bros show Gotham, set in the world of DC Comics' Batman, reports Deadline.

The series will focus on the early days of Commissioner James Gordon, back when he is still a detective with the Gotham City Police Department.

Gotham's Gordon is yet to meet Batman, and the Dark Knight will not be appearing in the show.

But there is a chance that the Joker could bring his own brand of deranged terror to the small screen as Gotham will also explore the origins of 'the villains who made Gotham City famous.'

Gotham will air on FOX, and has been created by Warner Bros. TV and The Mentalist's Bruno Heller.
