GSI, the London based media rights holder, has signed a three-year deal with the Polish Ekstraliga for The Ekstraliga. The agreement gives GSI exclusive international rights for digital TV, internet and mobile platforms.
The exclusive agreement will run from the 2010 season until 2012 season and is worldwide (excluding Poland) GSI now holds the exclusive international media rights for the world's top two Speedway Leagues, SpeedwayGB’s Elite League and the Polish Ekstraliga as well as holding all media and merchandising rights for all other SpeedwayGB speedway brands.
GSI’s CEO and owner Terry Russell said, “This is a fabulous deal for GSI and something that we’ve been working on with the Ekstra Liga since January.
"We’ve had an MOU in place for a number months allowing GSI to actively promote and sell the Ekstra-Liga rights and I’m delighted that the agreement has now been officially completed.
"Adding the two weekly Live Ekstraliga meetings to our Live Elite League meetings means that GSI can now offer over 70+ Live Speedway meetings throughout the year. That translates to a weekly broadcast of six hours.”
Ryszard Kowalski, president of Poland’s Ekstraliga added: ”We are very excited about the deal with GSI. They’re doing a great job of selling SpeedwayGB’s Elite League media rights around the world and with the our Ekstraliga meetings now added to their existing media rights offering we believe we’ve help create an irresistible combination of exciting and unique Speedway licensing packages that broadcasters and new media players alike will be interested in.”
GSI are working on the production of a new, weekly Speedway highlights program. The 60min program will combine the best action from the Elite League & Ekstraliga live broadcasts offering licensees a greater choice of Speedway Content licences from the end of the 2010 season onwards.
